Item Description

Albert Thomas Pile was born in London in 1882 and studied at the Central School of Art, Goldsmiths, Camberwell and Bournemouth colleges of art.

A civil servant during the second world war he was an official artist at the Information Ministry recording the devastation wrought by the Luftwaffe on London.

In retirement he moved to Whitby, whose social history he documented in his pictures.

Pile exhibited extensively at the R.S.A. the R.H.A. and the Paris Salon.
