Melitta Schiffer nee Dickstein studied at the Weimar Academy of Arts for five years including during its merger in 1919 under Walter Gropius, when it became known as the Bauhaus.

In 1935 Melitta Schiffer held her first exhibition at the Jewish Museum in Berlin; she emigrated the following year to Palestine.

Melitta Schiffer was one of the first members of the Haifa artists village, Ein Hod, founded by Marcel Janco. She exhibited widely across Europe including the Ben Uri Gallery in London.
